The origin of Futsal can be traced back to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930. Futsal gained rapid popularity throughout South America, particularly in Brazil. The skill developed in this game is visible in the world-famous style the Brazilians display outdoors on the full-sized field.  Pele, Zico, Socrates, Bebeto and other Brazilian superstars developed their skill playing Futsal.  While Brazil continues to be the Futsal hub, the game is now played all over the world, from Europe to North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Asia and Oceania.

The game is played 5v5 (four field players plus a goalie) on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls. Futsal is recognized as the best option for skills development. It is the only form of indoor soccer endorsed by FIFA, and US Soccer is mandating futsal as a component of their player development initiative. It has grown dramatically in the US as coaches and players are discovering it’s benefits. Futsal in the United States is growing rapidly as coaches and players are discovering the technical and tactical benefits. It allows for touches on the ball to improve footskills, and quicker movements off the ball for a higher speed of play and quick decision-making.

KC Futsal league was formed in 2015 when 3 smaller futsal leagues came together to offer an excellent winter, indoor option for local club players.  The league has grown to over 150 teams offering various levels of play.  Games are played at various locations around the KC Metro area between early November and the end of February.
