KC Athletics is excited to announce a new program and the addition of Derek Shoare onto the club’s technical staff.  Shoare will direct and lead the club’s new initiative, the COLLEGE PLACEMENT PROGRAM (CPP).

“As the club continues to evolve, it is imperative that we help assist, counsel and educate our players and parents on college playing opportunities," said Executive Director, Huw Williams.  "There is simply nobody more qualified to fulfill this role than Derek.  He is a great addition to our club. I am thrilled to be able to work with my longtime friend and colleague again, and I am excited for our players who will benefit from Derek’s passion for the game and his ability to create such a positive and mutually trusting environment.”

Shoare brings with him a wealth of experience from both the youth and collegiate soccer communities.  He has fostered and developed countless relationships with college programs from throughout the country.

Most recently, Shoare served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the University of Kansas where he helped guide the Jayhawks to unprecedented success over the past five years – culminating with a Big 12 Championship and a NCAA Sweet 16 run in 2019-2020.  On the youth soccer side, Shoare is a 3-time Kansas Youth Soccer Coach of the Year, Region II Coach of the Year and has developed numerous players who have gone on to excel at the collegiate level.

"I appreciate the leadership of KC Athletics and their confidence in my ability and experience to enhance the already well-established programs and culture of the club," said Shoare. "For those players who are considering extending their soccer experience to the collegiate level, I plan on being an educator and advocate for them to help maximize the enjoyment and success that derives from competing at the next level. I also look forward to helping players technically develop and become even more well-rounded athletes."

The COLLEGE PLACEMENT PROGRAM is designed to help KC Athletics players reach their goals of playing collegiate soccer, and more specifically to help families navigate through the process and toward what will be the right fit.  The CPP will be a one-of-a-kind program and will provide a consistent pathway to help players achieve their collegiate goals.

As well as leading the CPP, Shoare will be providing advanced technical sessions for our ECNL players. Join us in welcoming Derek to KC Athletics!
