KC ATHLETICS CONFLICT RESOLUTION


This conflict resolution process has been established to allow for an objective and transparent means to address parent/player concerns or issues.


Dealing with Technical Issues - examples of situations which might arise include concerns over playing time, position assignments, coaching style, disciplinary actions, etc.

  1. The member/parent must first approach the team’s coach directly with their concerns.
  2. The member/parent may not approach coaches with issues/concerns within 24hrs of a game or tournament.
  3. If the resolution cannot be resolved over the phone/email, an appointment for a face to face meeting needs to be requested (by e-mail) to the coach.
  4. If the issue remains unresolved after the face to face meeting, another meeting with the Academy Director and/or Regional Director needs to be requested by e-mail.
  5. If unresolved, the issue needs to be presented to the Executive Director.
  6. If still unresolved, the issue will be presented the club’s Board of Directors.

Dealing with Administrative issues – club payments, practice times, club communication, etc.

  1. The member/parent must first approach the team’s administrator directly with their concerns.
  2. If the issue remains unresolved, after the member/parent must contact the Regional Administrator or Program Administrator.
  3. If the issue remains unresolved, the issue must be brought to the attention of the Director of Operations.
  4. If still unresolved, the issue needs to be presented to the Executive Director.
  5. If still unresolved, the issue will be presented the club’s Board of Directors.



KC ATHLETICS ANTI-BULLYING POLICY


KC Athletics Club is committed to providing players a positive and secure soccer development environment. Bullying is taken very seriously and is not tolerated in any manner by the club. We will respond quickly and consistently to any bullying behavior.


WHAT IS BULLYING?

Bullying is defined as: “unwanted, aggressive behavior shown among children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance.”

There are numerous types of bullying:

  • Verbal bullying – teasing, name calling, threats, taunting.
  • Social bullying – hurting someone’s reputation.
  • Physical bullying – hurting a person or possession.
  • Written – any form of communicative incident meant to create pain or distress to another.

WHERE AND WHEN BULLYING HAPPENS

The club recognizes that bullying can occur at any time including within and during our soccer community activities.

REASONS FOR THE CLUB’S ANTI BULLYING POLICY

  • To help create a positive club culture which:
  • Is welcoming.
  • Is accepting of diversity and differences.
  • Promotes respectful relationships across the club community.

PROCEDURE FOR PARENTS, COACHES & THE CLUB WHEN BULLYING IS IDENTIFIED

  1.  Parents or ANYONE who witnesses the incident should report (in writing) bullying incidents to the coach or team administrator. 
  2. The parents of the accused bullying player will be informed immediately.
  3. The coach/administrator MUST inform the Executive Director of all bullying incidents.
  4. The parents of the bullying player will meet with the team coach/administrator and/or Executive Director.
  5. The club representative will exercise his/her professional judgement to determine whether bullying has occurred and how the situation will be resolved.

KC Athletics acknowledges that these policies cannot apply to personal use (which make no reference to the club or anything related to the club) of social media platforms by its players, parents and coaches.

However, when representing or when engaging in club activities, the following values and policies must be adhered to:

GENERAL

  1. Participating in social media can be a fun and entertaining way of communicating with family, friends and others with similar interests.
  2. Players must be aware that engaging in social media opens them up to increased levels of scrutiny and exposes our club when posts are associated with club activities.
  3. Players need to be aware that engaging in social media is just like being interviewed by traditional media forms and they are personally responsible for any content they publish.
  4. Players must be mindful that any content they publish is public.
  5. Do not post anything which is private, confidential or sensitive.
  6. Foul language, personal insults and racial slurs are strongly prohibited.
  7. Players should be aware than any “re-tweets” or “shares” are regarded as their post.

SAFETY

  1. Players need to pay attention to their security and privacy settings.
  2. Players should not post their email address, home address, phone numbers or other personal information.
  3. Players are urged to be aware of who they add as a social media “friend/follower.”

CLUB LOGO OR BRANDING

  1.  Appropriate permission must be obtained for use of official club logos or images in any social media content.

RESPECT

  1. KC Athletics expects all of its players to respect the club brand and its reputation in all social media posts.
  2. Players must not post pictures, photos, etc. that could negatively reflect on the player, coaches and teammates.
  3. KC Athletics expects its members to be respectful in any posts – this includes the obvious (ethnic slurs, offensive/defamatory comments, personal insults, obscenity, etc.) but also proper consideration of privacy.

CONSEQUENCES

  1. Players are urged to remember the phrase “Freedom of speech does not equal freedom of consequence.”
  2. Players are urged to take a moment to think of possible repercussions prior to publishing any content.
  3. KC Athletics members are advised that what they post might affect their futures. Social media sites are reviewed by universities, team scouts, national governing bodies and potential employers.

PUBLISHING INCORRECT INFORMATION

  1.  Players are encouraged to act quickly if they publish inaccurate or incorrect information and correct their post ASAP.

SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO POST

  1.  Thank you’s – Taking the time to thank those who support the club, specific team or teammates who have helped you attain success/fun is always good.
  2. Support – Players can provide positive examples to others by posting positive messages.
  3. Share news and humor – Keep social media fun and positive. Share things you find favorable.
  4. Anything which reflects positively on you – Post subject matters which present you in a positive manner.

RESULTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA MISUSE

  1.  If it is deemed a KC Athletics player has posted content which reflects poorly on the club, the player may be sanctioned by the club. Sanctions could include:
  2. Written notification from the club Executive Director identifying the situation and a mandate for a removal of the post.
  3. Meeting with a club representative – Coach, Director or Executive Director.
  4. Temporary suspension from club activities.
  5. Dismissal from the club.
