TRYOUT FAQs

Q. Does it Cost to Tryout?

A. No, but you do need to register for all tryouts.

Q. What age groups do you have competitive teams for?

A. KC Athletics will have competitive teams for players born 2017-2006. We also have Pre-Competitive and Futures programs for younger players.

Q. Where can I find the tryout schedule?

A. The ECNL tryout schedule is posted at athleticskc.com/ecnltryout and our regular tryout schedule will be public by 5/20/2024.

Q. What if my player cannot attend any of the scheduled tryouts?

A. We ask that you complete the online tryout registration even if your player can not attend tryouts.  Attending pre-tryout camp is a great option if your player is unavailable during tryouts. Space is limited at camp so sign up early. If attending a pre-tryout camp instead of tryouts, please let the coach at the camp know. We also advise that you let our office staff or the coach know if you are unable to attend tryouts but want to accept a spot to play on a KC Athletics team. You can reach our office staff at club@athleticskc.com.

Q. What if you can only attend one of the scheduled tryouts?

A. Each age group will have a coordinator assisting the coaches. If you attend day 1 of the tryout, but cannot attend day 2 or 3, please have your player communicate this information with either the coaches on the field or staff at the fields so they are aware of this situation. If you have a player that is too young to communicate with the coaches, please let us know at club@athleticskc.com immediately after tryouts so we are aware.

Q. How will I be contacted to know if my player has a spot?

A. Your player can be offered a spot immediately at the tryout or the coach will be making phone calls, emails and texts throughout the day and evening once tryouts are completed. If you have not heard anything within 24 hours, please contact our office staff at club@athleticskc.com.

Q. How do I sign up for tryouts?

A. Please use this link to register for tryouts.  Registration is required to attend a tryout session.

Q. If I already have a PlayMetrics account, do I need to create another one to register for tryouts for 2024-25?

A. No, you can use the same Playmetrics account you already have created.

Q. Can I try out for a specific team?

A. Our tryouts are set up by age groups for the coaches to evaluate and place each player on the roster that best fits the level of play for that player. U13 and older players will be eligible to tryout for Championship or Academy Level Teams.  Academy teams are comprised of the top players from around the KC Metro area.  Championship teams are generally formed with players from the same region (there can be exceptions).  Age groups U12 and younger will tryout within the region where they live and be placed on an appropriate level team within that region. These younger age groups are not involved in Academy level teams.

Q. Should I be at every tryout for my age group?

A. If you can only attend 1 session, please try to be at the first one.

Q. What do I need to bring to tryouts?

A. All players should bring an age-appropriate size soccer ball, shin guards, and plenty of water. Sunscreen is also a good idea.

Q. How do I accept my offered spot?

A. You will convey your acceptance to your coach in person or via email, text or phone.  You will then receive an email from PlayMetrics with an offer for your specific team.  You will  accept your spot by setting up your payment plan for the season.

Q. After tryouts, what’s next?

A. As soon as teams are finalized, the team admin will reach out to the team to introduce him/herself and get everyone started on uniform ordering, ensure players are registered, and will update players and parents on all information for fall as soon as it comes available. Training generally starts the first week of August and league games typically begin mid-August.
